CAD/NOK reaches 6.5800 by November 5, 2026 in the base case, 6.5600 in the bear case and 6.6900 in the bull case. The base case rests on Norges Bank's 4.50% policy rate, which leaves a 200 basis point premium over the Bank of Canada's 2.50% overnight target.

The Norges Bank fixing for the Canadian dollar against the krone stood at 6.6325 on October 29, 2026, down from 7.3296 on January 2, 2026, a 9.51% decline on series B.CAD.NOK.SP. The October 28 increase in Canada's overnight target, 25 basis points to 2.50%, narrowed that premium from 225 basis points to 200. The path runs to the November 5 decision.

Seven reference points anchor the path, and each one is either a Norges Bank fixing or a disclosed rounding of those fixings.

  • Spot is 6.6325, the October 29, 2026 fixing in series B.CAD.NOK.SP, in kroner per one Canadian dollar.
  • The 2026 open in that series is 7.3296 on January 2, 2026.
  • The sample low is 6.6169 on October 28, 2026, the day Canada raised the overnight target.
  • The high since September 24 is 6.7765 on October 2, and 6.6897 on October 15 is the 10-day peak.
  • Base target 6.5800 rounds 6.6325 minus the 0.0572 fall from 6.6897, which equals 6.5753.
  • Bear target 6.5600 rounds 6.6169 minus that same 0.0572, which equals 6.5597.
  • Bull target 6.6900 sits just past the October 15 high, and a fixing above 6.7000 ends the lower path.

How the CAD/NOK fixing and the 6.5800 target are measured

The spot is Norges Bank series B.CAD.NOK.SP, kroner per one Canadian dollar, at the European Central Bank (ECB) concertation time of 14:15 Central European Time. The window runs from January 2, 2026 through October 29, 2026. Rates come from the September 24 Norges Bank release and the October 28 Bank of Canada release, with Governor Tiff Macklem's opening statement. Norwegian CPI is Statistics Norway's October 9 release, and Canadian CPI is the Bank of Canada daily digest. The 6.5800 figure is a desk rounding of the October 15 to October 29 swing, separate from the Monetary Policy Report path. Afternoon dealing prices can differ from the print.

CAD/NOK is the number of Norwegian kroner per one Canadian dollar in Norges Bank's daily fixing. On October 29, 2026 the Bank published 6.6325 in series B.CAD.NOK.SP, collected at the European Central Bank concertation time of 14:15 Central European Time. The same series printed 7.3296 on January 2, 2026, so the cross stands 9.51% lower on those two official prints. The September 29, 2026 fixing was 6.7533, and the cross is 1.79% lower than that print. Behind the drift sits a 200 basis point policy-rate gap. Norges Bank's Monetary Policy and Financial Stability Committee raised the policy rate from 4.25% to 4.50% at its meeting on September 23, 2026, and announced the decision on September 24. The Bank of Canada increased its overnight-rate target by 25 basis points to 2.50% on October 28, 2026.

"Inflation has been above target for several years. By raising the policy rate, we are helping to reduce inflation. It will likely be necessary to keep the policy rate elevated for a time, and the Committee is prepared to raise the policy rate further if needed to bring inflation down to the 2% target within a reasonable time horizon."

— Ida Wolden Bache, Governor, Norges Bank (Norges Bank)

Why the rate premium still points CAD/NOK toward 6.5800

The bull case is a higher CAD/NOK fixing and the bear case is a lower one. The base case sits with the lower print because the krone still carries the higher policy rate. The November 5 announcement is a policy-rate decision at 10:00, separate from the December 17 decision that includes a new Monetary Policy Report.

The base case treats the November 5, 2026 meeting as a hold at 4.50%, with the policy rate likely to remain elevated for a time. Statistics Norway reported on October 9, 2026 that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 3.4% in the 12 months to September, while the CPI adjusted for tax changes and excluding energy products (CPI-ATE) rose 3.0%. The Bank of Canada daily digest shows total consumer-price inflation at 3.1% in September 2026, against 3.0% in August, with CPI-trim at 1.8% and CPI-median at 1.9%. Subtracting those headline rates from the policy rates leaves 1.10 percentage points in Norway (4.50 minus 3.4) and a negative 0.60 percentage points in Canada (2.50 minus 3.1), a crude gap of 1.70 percentage points in Norway's favour, which is the mechanism behind a lower CAD/NOK fixing by November 5.

September CPI printed 3.4% on October 9 after a hike framed on August inflation of 3.3%, while CPI-ATE stayed at 3.0%. Norges Bank said a stronger krone would dampen imported inflation, which is a lower CAD/NOK print. Room for a further Canadian increase would favour 6.6900 on a later window. Where a short rate-gap window runs out of road

The measured move asks for 0.0525 kroner, or 0.79%, off the October 29 fixing, using 6.6325 minus 6.5800 divided by 6.6325. The hold at 4.50% may already sit inside 6.6325, in which case a repeat of September's language leaves the fixing near 6.6169 rather than at 6.5800.

From 6.7237 on September 24 to 6.6325 on October 29 the cross fell 1.36% over about five weeks, so the base case keeps the smaller 0.0572 swing. Bank of Canada FXNOKCAD printed 0.1509 Canadian dollars per krone that day, and 6.6325 remains the spot. Energy can move both currencies together and leave the cross inside 6.6169 to 6.7765.

"With elevated inflation expected to last longer and the economy showing resilience, Governing Council agreed that risks to inflation had increased and there was less scope for monetary accommodation."

— Tiff Macklem, Governor, Bank of Canada (Bank of Canada)

What would invalidate the path to 6.5800

The base case to 6.5800 breaks if any one of these four signals prints:

  • A CAD/NOK fixing above 6.7000 from October 30 through November 5, 2026. That would clear the October 15 high of 6.6897 before the decision.
  • November 5 guidance of a policy rate below 4.50%, or a text that retires the readiness to raise the rate further. The bull case near 6.6900 then becomes the live path.
  • FXNOKCAD at or below 0.1490 Canadian dollars per krone, against 0.1509 on October 29. Prints from October 20 to October 29 sit at or above 0.1495, so 0.1490 would be a weaker krone on the Bank of Canada average.
  • A November 5 rate increase that still leaves CAD/NOK above 6.6325. The extra tightening would already have been in the price.

What to watch through the November 5 decision

The horizon is the November 5, 2026 decision at 10:00 on the policy-rate page, and the 14:15 Central European Time fixing lands after the statement. Mark 6.6169, 6.5800, 6.6900 and 6.7000. December 17 brings the Monetary Policy Report, Canada's next rate date is December 9, October CPI is due around November 10, and the Financial Stability Report is on November 11. Until November 5, watch the fixing and the 0.1490 krone average.

TL;DR

CAD/NOK, Norges Bank's fixing of kroner per Canadian dollar, stands at 6.6325 on October 29, 2026, down 9.51% from 7.3296 on January 2. The base case is 6.5800 by November 5, 2026, the bear case 6.5600 and the bull case 6.6900. Norway's policy rate is 4.50% and the Bank of Canada overnight target is 2.50%, a 200 basis point gap. Statistics Norway put September CPI at 3.4% on October 9. A fixing above 6.7000 invalidates the path, and December 17 sits outside the horizon.

Questions on the CAD/NOK path into the rate decision

What is the CAD/NOK forecast into the November 5 decision?

CAD/NOK at 6.5800 is the base case for November 5, 2026, with 6.5600 in the bear case and 6.6900 in the bull case. Spot is the October 29 Norges Bank fixing of 6.6325. The path is a hold at 4.50% that keeps September's line on a further rise if inflation warrants one. A fixing above 6.7000 ends it. December 17, with the Monetary Policy Report, is the later meeting.

Where does the CAD/NOK spot of 6.6325 come from?

It is Norges Bank series B.CAD.NOK.SP for October 29, 2026, in kroner per one Canadian dollar, taken at the ECB concertation time of 14:15 Central European Time. The series opened 2026 at 7.3296 on January 2. Bank of Canada FXNOKCAD printed 0.1509 Canadian dollars per krone the same day. The levels use 6.6325, and 0.1509 stays in its own units as a cross-check.

How wide is the policy-rate gap between Norway and Canada?

The gap is 200 basis points. Norway's policy rate is 4.50% after the September 23 rise from 4.25%, announced on September 24. Canada's overnight target is 2.50% after a 25 basis point increase on October 28, with the Bank Rate at 2.75% and the deposit rate at 2.45%. September CPI was 3.4% in Norway and 3.1% in Canada. That nominal gap is the input for the CAD/NOK path.

What would invalidate the lower CAD/NOK path?

A fixing above 6.7000 through November 5, 2026 breaks the base case, above the October 15 high of 6.6897. Guidance below 4.50%, or a text that drops the readiness to raise the rate further, takes out the premium. FXNOKCAD at or below 0.1490, versus 0.1509 on October 29, would show a weaker krone. A hike that leaves the fixing above 6.6325 would show the move was already priced.
