The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) reaches 6,193.45 by November 26, 2026 in the base case, 6,402.89 in the bull case and 5,469.47 in the bear case. The base level is the halfway retracement from the September 23, 2026 close of 7,080.92 to the October 23 low of 5,305.98, against a print of 6,016.07 at 15:12 Korea Standard Time on October 28, 2026. The Bank of Korea (BOK) left the Base Rate at 3.00 percent on October 22, with further increases still in view.
Key Levels: the KOSPI map uses the October 28 print and the September-to-October swing.
• KOSPI: 6,016.07 at 15:12 Korea Standard Time on October 28, 2026 — Yahoo Finance; October 27 close 5,638.34 matches Yonhap
• Base case target: 6,193.45 by November 26, 2026 — 50 percent retracement, September 23 close to the October 23 low
• Bull case target: 6,402.89 if the Base Rate stays at 3.00 percent — 61.8 percent retracement of the same swing
• Bear case target: 5,469.47 if the bounce unwinds — October 26, 2026 close
• Major support: 5,638.34 — October 27 close
• Major resistance: 6,032.28 — October 28 session high, Yahoo Finance
• Invalidation level: daily close below 5,305.98 — October 23 session low
How the halfway level is calculated
The halfway level on the KOSPI is an arithmetic retracement from Yahoo Finance daily bars running September 1, 2026 through the October 28 print at 15:12 Korea Standard Time, 18 minutes before the 15:30 cash close, so the last figure can still differ from the settlement. The October 27 close in that feed, 5,638.34, matches the Korea Exchange close Yonhap reported. The swing is the September 23 close of 7,080.92 to the October 23 low of 5,305.98. Intraday highs on September 8 and September 22 were 7,171.52 and 7,171.44, so a high-to-low ratio would sit above these targets.
The tape beside the 3.00 percent hold
The October 27 session settled at 5,638.34, up 168.87 points or 3.09 percent, and the October 28 print stood 377.73 points, or 6.70 percent, above that close. Yonhap reported turnover of 183.13 million shares worth 15.29 trillion won. Foreign investors bought a net 592.97 billion won and institutions a net 280.38 billion won, while individuals sold a net 947.78 billion won.

Sources: Yahoo Finance daily bars, read October 28, 2026. October 23 uses the October 22 close of 5,533.77. The October 27 last matches Yonhap. The October 28 last is the 15:12 Korea Standard Time print.
A halfway retracement is the price that recovers half of a completed decline, measured from a reference close down to a later low and back up by the same fraction. On the KOSPI the swing runs from the September 23, 2026 close of 7,080.92 to the October 23, 2026 low of 5,305.98, a drop of 1,774.94 points, or 25.07 percent, on Yahoo Finance daily bars. Adding half the range to the low produces 6,193.45, the base case into the Bank of Korea meeting on November 26, 2026. The 61.8 percent retracement is 6,402.89 and the 38.2 percent retracement is 5,984.01. The October 28 print of 6,016.07 has already cleared 5,984.01 and recovers 40.0 percent of the decline, leaving 177.38 points, or 2.95 percent, up to halfway. The September high stays a separate reference because the Monetary Policy Board left the Base Rate at 3.00 percent on October 22 and kept further increases in view.
The Bank of Korea advance estimate of October 27 put real gross domestic product up 1.0 percent on the quarter and 3.4 percent on the year. Yonhap reported that pace above an August forecast of 0.3 percent, after 1.8 percent in the first quarter and 0.6 percent in the second, with September exports of 120.9 billion US dollars.
"Foreigners and institutions snapped up major semiconductor stocks amid renewed investment sentiment over AI, despite lingering macroeconomic concerns."

Why 6,193.45 is the base case into the next decision
Thursday, November 26, 2026 is the next policy-setting date on the Bank of Korea schedule, after an October 22 hold at 3.00 percent with all seven members in favour. Yonhap called the July and August moves the first back-to-back hikes since January 2023, and the decision left further increases open, with September consumer prices at 2.9 percent and core inflation at 2.8 percent. Samsung Electronics rose 4.23 percent to 222,000 won on October 27, and SK hynix reported operating profit of 83.33 trillion won, up 557.2 percent, on revenue of 104.61 trillion won, with dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) capacity through 2029 already sold.
Halfway, rather than a return to 7,080.92, is the level that fits both facts. The gap from 6,016.07 to 6,193.45 is 2.95 percent, while the gap down to the October 26 close of 5,469.47 is 546.60 points. The bull case of 6,402.89 needs the Base Rate held at 3.00 percent plus a continuation of the October 27 foreign and institutional net buys. The same habit of pinning an index to a live policy rate is how the desk has set the OMXS30 under the Riksbank, TOPIX under the Bank of Japan guideline and TAIEX under the discount-rate hold. A hike on November 26 can still stall the tape at the October 28 high of 6,032.28, given September prices at 2.9 percent against the 2 percent target Yonhap attributes to Governor Shin Hyun-song and housing-related loans the Board said were still rising around Seoul.
What the retracement model leaves out
A close paired with a later low mixes two kinds of print, and the September 8 high of 7,171.52 or the October 23 close of 5,550.30 would shift 6,193.45. The October 28 figure still had 18 minutes of regular trade left, so a settlement through 6,193.45 or back through the 5,763.85 open would change the start the same afternoon. SK hynix and Samsung Electronics dominate the move. The October 22 hold was followed by the swing low the next session, while the July and August hikes still left room for the September 23 close of 7,080.92.
"The Board, therefore, sees it warranted to continue its policy response until there is confidence that inflation will converge stably to the target level, and will determine the timing and pace of further Base Rate hikes while closely monitoring incoming data."
— Shin Hyun-song, Governor, Bank of Korea (Bank of Korea)
What would invalidate the path to 6,193.45
The base case breaks if any one of these four signals prints, because each one removes a leg the halfway level uses.
- A daily close below 5,305.98. That October 23 low is the floor of the swing, so 6,193.45 would have to be redrawn.
- A daily close below 5,638.34 before November 26, 2026. That gives back the October 27 close and the earnings gap with it.
- A Base Rate above 3.00 percent on November 26, with that day's close below 5,638.34. The hike would have overwhelmed the memory bid.
- Foreign and institutional net selling on a day the index also loses 5,638.34. That removes the October 27 sponsorship of 592.97 billion won and 280.38 billion won.
What to watch before the next Base Rate decision
The October 22 remarks named third-quarter gross domestic product, now in at 1.0 percent on the quarter, and October inflation as the checks before any further Base Rate move. A print near September's 2.9 percent keeps further increases alive, and a print towards the 2 percent target would soften the cap at halfway. Markers until Thursday, November 26, 2026 are 6,032.28, 6,193.45, 6,402.89, 5,638.34 and 5,305.98. Yonhap also tied the October 27 rally to artificial intelligence (AI) enthusiasm ahead of a Federal Reserve decision, after Anthropic disclosed strong revenue growth in a US listing filing.
TL;DR
KOSPI reaches 6,193.45 by November 26, 2026 in the base case, 6,402.89 if the Bank of Korea holds the Base Rate at 3.00 percent, and 5,469.47 if the bounce unwinds to the October 26 close. The base level retraces half the drop from the September 23 close of 7,080.92 to the October 23 low of 5,305.98. The latest print was 6,016.07 at 15:12 Korea Standard Time on October 28. Third-quarter real gross domestic product rose 1.0 percent on the quarter, the Bank's advance estimate shows. A daily close below 5,305.98 retires the map.
FAQ
What is the KOSPI base-case level into the next Bank of Korea decision?
The base case is 6,193.45 by November 26, 2026, half the fall from the September 23 close of 7,080.92 to the October 23 low of 5,305.98. The October 28 print of 6,016.07 sits 2.95 percent below that level and already above 5,984.01. The bull case is 6,402.89 if the Base Rate stays at 3.00 percent. The bear case is the October 26 close of 5,469.47, and a daily close under 5,305.98 retires the swing the targets are built on.
When does the Bank of Korea next set the Base Rate?
The Bank's schedule of policy-setting meetings for 2026 ends on Thursday, November 26. On October 22 the Monetary Policy Board left the Base Rate at 3.00 percent with all seven members in favour, after increases in July and August, and said it would still set the timing of further increases. The index horizon is that November 26 decision, taken from the Bank's own calendar.
Why stop at halfway after a 6.70 percent session?
The October 28 print was already 6.70 percent above the October 27 close and through the 38.2 percent retracement. The next step on the same swing is 6,193.45, only 2.95 percent higher. A return to 7,080.92 would ignore two completed hikes and an open door to another. Halfway keeps the bounce and the hike bias in one objective.
What would prove the path to 6,193.45 wrong?
A daily close below 5,305.98 redraws the swing. A daily close below 5,638.34 before November 26 would give back the earnings gap. A Base Rate above 3.00 percent on the decision day, with the index also under 5,638.34, would say the hike had overwhelmed the memory bid. Foreign and institutional net selling through that same close would remove the October 27 sponsorship.
