Kalepa raises $75 million at a $470 million valuation

Kalepa's $75 million Series B values the New York insurtech at $470 million, with Updata leading after a year of tripled revenue and positive cash flow.

Kalepa raises $75 million at a $470 million valuation

Having tracked commercial underwriting software since Kalepa's $14 million Series A in 2021, I read this round as a balance-sheet statement as much as a product bet. Kalepa, the New York insurtech, said on November 5, 2026 that it had raised $75 million in a Series B at a $470 million valuation, with Updata Partners leading and IA Ventures and Inspired Capital participating. Revenue and the customer count each tripled over the past year, the company says, and the business stayed cash flow positive for more than two years.

The cross-vertical tell sits in the hiring rather than in the multiple. Chief Technology Officer Garrett Schlesinger spent 12 years at Affirm, joined as that lender's 12th employee, and helped build its real-time underwriting system, the same announcement says. A consumer-credit score and a commercial-insurance file can both clear in seconds, while a named professional still owns the loss. Kalepa is staffing for that handoff rather than for a chatbot parked on a policy screen.

Where the Series B capital goes

Updata's investment takes total capital raised to $91 million, against the $14 million Series A that Inspired Capital led in 2021 with IA Ventures alongside, Reuters reported. That is more than five times the prior equity round, and the announcement leaves the $470 million valuation unlabeled as pre-money or post-money. Kalepa says the money will widen its artificial intelligence (AI) product suite, open new markets, and double headcount in 2027.

Insurance Post reported the same day that Paul Monasterio, co-founder and chief executive of Kalepa, tied the capital to AI decision-making in the London market, where an office is planned in the coming months. The company already supports London managing general agents (MGAs). A February 18, 2026 partnership note said an expanded Bishop Street Underwriters agreement would cover Avid Insurance Services and Landmark Underwriting.

What Kalepa says customers are seeing

Named customers include WR Berkley, Bowhead Specialty and AmRisc. Kalepa says users have reported 30% to 60% more premium per underwriter, a 58% cut in quote time, a 960-basis-point combined-ratio improvement, and a doubled quote-to-bind rate, with platform work up fourfold in the past year. Reuters carried the premium range, the quote-time cut and the fourfold volume. The combined-ratio and bind-rate figures, published beside the cash-flow claim, are Kalepa's own account rather than a number from a carrier statutory filing.

Rivals are funding the adjacent workflow

Federato raised $100 million in a Series D on November 18, 2025, led by Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, and said revenue had tripled since a $40 million Series C less than a year earlier. FurtherAI raised a $25 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz in October 2025, taking funding to $30 million, and on October 27, 2026 it put a Guidewire PolicyCenter accelerator on the Guidewire Marketplace. Public posts from both firms through November 7, 2026 stay on those roadmaps and leave Kalepa's Series B unmentioned.

Carriers and MGAs that already run a core system are choosing an underwriting layer, a full policy-lifecycle suite, or a core-vendor purchase. Guidewire's $1.7 billion cash agreement to buy hyperexponential is the incumbent version of that choice. Stand Insurance raised $70 million at a $1 billion value on the carrier side, and Bind AI raised $10 million to automate broker inboxes, the intake step Kalepa and FurtherAI both touch. Kalepa's $75 million round at a $470 million valuation sits in the middle of that spread.

Who Kalepa hired before the round

Schlesinger joins Chief Revenue Officer David Meister, from Addepar, Head of Product Audrey Howell, from Palantir and Butterfly Network, and Head of Talent Tim Khoo-Jones, previously of Block and Shopify. The bench runs from lending underwriting and wealth software to data platforms and consumer-technology recruiting, which fits a vendor selling into carriers. "Kalepa already operates across underwriting, operations, pricing, and portfolio management. Newer areas of expansion include insurance product development, reinsurance and distribution," Monasterio told Reuters, adding that most hiring will be in engineering, AI and commercial roles.

Doubling headcount in 2027, weighted toward engineering and commercial roles, lifts the cost base just as the product moves into reinsurance, distribution and insurance product development, and toward the London office Insurance Post says is months away. If the premium-per-underwriter gains hold on WR Berkley, Bowhead Specialty and AmRisc books after that build-out, the $470 million valuation is a price on workflow share. If the gains stay on faster quotes inside books those carriers already understand, Updata has financed a larger version of the tool the 2021 round backed. Cash flow positive growth is the operating claim both outcomes will be measured against.
