David Lindberg Joins NatWest Group as CEO of Retail Banking Division

NatWest Markets - David LindbergNatWest Group, the UK based financial services giant has revealed in its latest statement that it has onboarded Mr. David Lindberg to serve in the role of Chief Executive Officer for its Retail Banking Division. NatWest Group is owns a bank which is recognised as one of big four clearing service provider in UK and also provides investment, lending and insurance services. The incoming executive is a veteran with more than two decades of experience serving in leading financial services providers across US and Australian market regions. He is currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of Consumer Division in Westpac having held the role for nearly one year. David has been a part of Westpac bank in Australia for more than seven years now having joined the firm back in January of 2013 as Chief Product and Digital Officer. He was promoted in June of 2015 to Chief Executive Officer of Commercial & Business Bank and to his current role in April of 2019.

Prior to his term at Westpac, he served as Executive General Manager for Credit Cards & Payments units in Commonwealth Bank for two and a half years. Earlier in his career, he had served as Managing Director of Marketing & Strategy at ANZ, Vice President of First Manhattan Consulting group and as an analyst in AT Kearney. Mr. Lindberg’s appointment to role of CEO of Retail Banking division in NatWest is subject to regulatory approval and he is also expected to become a member of executive committee of NatWest Holdings alongside his responsibilities as CEO and will report directly to Group Chief Executive Officer Alison Rose. NatWest is yet to announce the exact date/time frame of when David will take on his new roles but it has made clear in the same announcement that Mr. Les Matheson – current CEO of Personal Banking division will be stepping down shortly. Mr. Matheson will continue to work as part of the bank for now and wait until Mr. Lindberg assumes his new responsibilities so as to ensure smooth transition of power and responsibilities.

With a wealth of experience, he is the perfect person to lead our team through what will be a challenging, but dynamic new chapter in our history and I am delighted to welcome him to the bank” and added “Under Les’ leadership we’ve made great progress in transforming our Personal Banking business around the needs and goals of our customers, including helping customers transition from physical to digital. We now have more than 7 million customers regularly using our mobile app. We’ve also grown our market share and seen strong improvement on NPS in key strategic areas including mortgages” thanking Mr. Matheson for contribution to the bank’s growth.
