Karthik Subramanian has been a professional trader and fund manager over the last 18 years. He is basically a software developer who made the transition to financial domain around 18 years back as the attractiveness of the financial markets proved too much for him. He lives in Chennai in India along with his wife and son. He began his career as a software developer in 1999 and then gradually moved into the financial industry as he began trading stocks in his pastime. He then moved into the financial markets full time and then shifted his focus to the FX markets due to the liquid nature of these markets. Since then, he has been trading FX diligently and his favourite pair are the EURUSD and EURJPY. Over the last couple of years, he has found blockchain to be of high interest and considering his background in software and finance, he has since assembled a team of highly talented developers who have since worked on a variety of projects like crypto exchanges and blockchain architecturing. Now, he balances his time between trading and commenting on both the FX and crypto markets. He has worked with many publications including FX Street and Finance Magnates, which has helped him gain experience and also recognition across the industry. He loves to write and this passion has helped him to reach out across the FX and crypto industry. Alex Knight Appointed as Baton Systems’ Head of EMEA

Baton Systems - Alex KnightBaton Systems, A California based fintech firm which provides on-demand blockchain based secure clearing and settlement services for capital markets recently revealed in an update that it has a new addition to its leadership team. As per the statement released by the firm, it has hired former Citi Group executive Mr. Alex Knight to serve as the head of its EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) division. In his new role as head of the firm’s EMEA division, Alex will be based out of the firm’s office in London and will play a major role in the firm’s efforts to expand its footprint in European market. Alex is a veteran in financial service industry with twenty seven years of experience with successful career history and high level of expertise in wide array of financial services and products namely, Foreign Exchange, Clearing, Investment Banking, Electronic Trading, Fixed Income, and Derivatives. Alex began his career in financial services industry as Sales Manager at CRU, a UK based trading services provider which specialised in commodities – rare metals, mining and fertilizer handling the firm’s clients from Asian and Australian markets.

He also served as Sales Manager at DST International and as Director of sales at SS&C Technologies. However, he spent significant part of his career as part of US based multinational banking service provider Citi Group where he served in multiple roles for 18 years. During his multi-decade long career with the US lender, he served in leadership roles based out of Sydney and Singapore. He then moved on to London where he then played a key role in development of the firm’s Forex Prime Brokerage business division. At time of his resignation from the firm, he had been serving in capacity of Global Head of Sales and Client Coverage for Forex Prime Brokerage business unit and had been serving in this role for last four years. His appointment at the US based blockchain tech firm comes during a critical phase when the firm is focused on global expansion and he is expected to help with the company’s efforts to boost adoption of its blockchain based payment infrastructure in industry leading firms, major global banks and clearinghouses which are based out of Europe.

Commenting on his new role at the firm, Alex said, “Excessive funding costs, operational inefficiencies, and risk all create a significant drag on financial markets participants. Technology can be used to mitigate these pressures.  Baton has evolved as one of the industry’s most innovative financial technology firms, solving inefficiencies in legacy payments systems in a practical way, and I look forward to driving the expansion of its business in Europe”.
