Refinitiv, the UK based provider of global financial market data and infrastructure recently revealed in an announcement that it has made a new addition to its senior-level management team.
As per the latest statement released by the market data provider, it has hired veteran editor, Mr. Richard Mably, to serve as the head of its news performance division. Mr. Mably is a veteran with more than three decades of experience serving in journalism and editorial services having served under several major international press and news/market data providers.
The firm also revealed that this new role was created in response to increased demand for trusted news amidst an ongoing turbulent geopolitical environment. Given its reputation as the largest distributor of news to the global financial community made up of nearly 40,000 clients from nearly 190 countries, the firm aims to enhance the performance and value of its extensive news coverage to help power and advance the financial community.
In his new role as head of new performance division, Richard is expected to work towards maximizing the value of its products in order to meet demands from its vast client base. Given the fact that Richard is a former executive of global mass multimedia and financial data provider Reuters from which Refinitiv was split apart as an individual entity, his experience with the Canadian mass media giant makes him an ideal candidate for helping the firm push forward with its new goals.
Prior to taking up his current role with Refinitiv, he served at Reuters for 25 years taking up the most of his career history during which he held several key roles such as Global Commodities and Energy Editor, Global Editor for Commodities and Financial Markets and Editor for the EMEA region. Prior to his multi decade long stint with Reuters, he served as editor and reporter at AP-Dow Jones, McGraw-Hill and as Shipping Analyst at Lloyd’s of London Press.
Commenting on this newly created role and Mr. Mably’s appointment to the role, David Craig, CEO of Refinitiv said, “At a time of global trade wars and critical elections shaped by intense political discourse, trusted news is more important to the financial community than ever before. Market participants need instant access to high-quality news they can trust from a variety of sources so they can stay ahead of complex, fast-moving and globally connected markets. Richard’s incredible experience as a journalist and editor will help us to further enrich our news service for customers. As the regulations governing news distribution shift in different countries, Richard will play a key role in our governance around news distribution so we can most effectively balance the needs of our customers, our commitment to trusted news and the regulatory requirements we operate under”.
Commenting on his new role at the firm, Mr. Mably said, “With customers in approximately 190 countries, Refinitiv already has incredible global news distribution to connect market participants with trusted information that moves markets in microseconds. I’m excited about working with customers, partners, and suppliers to build on Refinitiv’s market-leading news distribution.”
