Chinese Vice Premier, Hu Chunhua, yesterday (Tuesday) visited the London Metal Exchange (LME), a member of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX), during his trip to the United Kingdom (UK) for the 10th UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD).
Vice Premier Hu’s delegation, alongside the HM Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Dame Barbara Woodward DCMG OBE, and the Economic Secretary to the UK Treasury and City Minister, John Glen MP, was greeted by HKEX Chief Executive, Charles Li, and LME Chief Executive, Matthew Chamberlain.
At a private roundtable meeting during Mr Hu’s visit, Mr Li provided an introduction to the HKEX Group and the LME, covering the organisation’s international equity, fixed income, derivatives and commodities business, with a specific focus on HKEX’s unique role in connecting China and the world.
The delegation also had the opportunity to observe trading on the LME’s open-outcry trading platform, the Ring, which is central to the process of price discovery.
