GBP/SEK falls to 13.0773 by 4 November on krona risk
GBP/SEK reaches 13.0773 by 4 November 2026, a 38.2% retracement of the Riksbank fixing rally, if the krona firms. A print above 13.28199 breaks the call.

GBP/SEK reaches 13.0773 by 4 November 2026 in the base case, 13.0140 in the bear case and 13.28199 in the bull case. The base case is a 38.2 per cent retracement of the Riksbank fixing from 12.74605 on 6 August to 13.28199 on 5 October.
SEKGBPPMI was 13.17497 on 9 October 2026, and the policy rate is 1.75 per cent. On 8 October, Governor Erik Thedéen said a rise as early as November may be reasonable. A fixing above 13.28199 breaks the call.
Key Levels:
- Asset: GBP/SEK 13.17497, Riksbank SEKGBPPMI, 9 October 2026, kronor per pound. No later print is in the metadata.
- Base case target: 13.0773 by 4 November 2026, the 5 October high minus 0.382 times the range from 6 August, at four decimals.
- Bull case target: 13.28199 if the 4 November decision leaves the policy rate at 1.75 per cent.
- Bear case target: 13.0140, the 50 per cent retracement, if the Board raises the rate to 2 per cent that day.
- Major support: 13.10039, the 24 September fixing, low of the 20 sessions to 9 October.
- Major resistance: 13.28199, the 5 October fixing and the 2026 high in this series so far.
- Invalidation level: any SEKGBPPMI fixing above 13.28199. The retracement is wrong above that print.
How 13.0773 is read off the August-to-October fixing range
The spot is Riksbank series SEKGBPPMI, the pound sterling, 195 prints from 2 January 2026 to 9 October 2026, with no later date and no intraday time. The last 20 daily changes, ending 9 October, have a standard deviation of 0.03540 kronor and a mean absolute change of 0.02603. Over the 18 weekdays from 12 October through 4 November, 0.03540 times the square root of 18 is about 0.150 kronor. The base case fits inside that band. The 0.382 figure is a convention, not a Riksbank estimate.
What the pound fixing and the two policy rates show
GBP/SEK here is the Riksbank's daily count of kronor per one pound in SEKGBPPMI. The latest observation is 13.17497 on 9 October 2026, up 0.77848 kronor, or 6.28 per cent, from 12.39649 on 2 January, and up 0.19504 kronor, or 1.50 per cent, from 12.97993 on 9 September. From 1 July the low was 12.74605 on 6 August and the high was 13.28199 on 5 October, a range of 0.53594. The 9 October print is 0.10702 kronor under that high. The high minus 0.382 times the range is 13.07726, rounded half-up to 13.0773, the base case for 4 November. The 20-session average is 13.18894, only 0.01397 kronor above the spot. The 24 September low of 13.10039 still has to break. The policy rate was unchanged for a year into September, so the year's rise did not need a Riksbank hike.

"The preliminary inflation rate according to the CPI and the CPIF increased in September, mainly due to higher energy prices."
— Carl Holmberg, statistician, Statistics Sweden (Statistics Sweden, 7 October 2026)
CPI in the flash is 1.1 per cent, from 0.3 per cent, and CPIF is 1.5 per cent, from 0.7 per cent. CPIF excluding energy was unchanged at 0.5 per cent. UK CPI was 3.1 per cent in August, against a 2 per cent target.
Why krona risk pulls GBP/SEK towards 13.0773
The decision of 23 September, notified on 24 September at 09:30 and effective from 30 September, holds the policy rate at 1.75 per cent. It says the rate has been unchanged for a year, that the krona has continued to weaken alongside higher oil, electricity and fuel prices, and that the rate should rise by more than in the June report. If the outlook holds, increases are expected to begin this year. The press-release path puts the fourth-quarter 2026 average at 1.85 per cent, against 1.82 per cent in June, and the first quarter of 2027 at 2.07 per cent, against 1.89 per cent. The 2026 GDP forecast goes to 2.8 per cent from 2.2 per cent. An average of 1.85 is above a full quarter at 1.75, and it is not treated here as the probability of a move on 4 November.
"I said that it may be reasonable to raise the policy rate as early as in November. I also considered the forecast for next year, which indicates further increases, to be reasonable yet associated with considerable uncertainty."
— Erik Thedéen, Governor, Sveriges Riksbank (Sveriges Riksbank, 8 October 2026)
Megan Greene, Catherine L. Mann and Huw Pill preferred 4 per cent in a 6–3 vote, and a Swedish step to 2 per cent would still leave 175 basis points. See a Bank of England split against a central bank on hold and a policy-rate gap on another sterling cross. On the forex desk, the gap is why invalidation is the October high.
What a fib range and a 200 basis point gap leave out
The year's 6.28 per cent rise came with the Swedish rate on hold, so guidance need not reverse it. That is the case for 13.28199. CPIF rose on energy, while CPIF excluding energy stayed at 0.5 per cent. The decision's line on August inflation adjusted for fiscal measures, "relatively close to 2 per cent", is not a printed figure and not CPIF excluding energy.
"A 25-basis point increase in Bank Rate now sends a clear signal of the MPC’s commitment to achieving its price stability mandate amidst the fog of geopolitical conflict and data noise."
— Huw Pill, member of the Monetary Policy Committee, Bank of England (Bank of England, 17 September 2026)
Bank staff, in those minutes, expected CPI slightly above 4 per cent in the first quarter of 2027. That is the sterling case for 13.28199.
What would invalidate the move to 13.0773
Any one of these four breaks the base case.
- A SEKGBPPMI fixing above 13.28199. That is the 5 October high. Above it the retracement has failed, and the call is wrong above that level.
- The 4 November text holds 1.75 per cent and drops a rise this year, or it cuts the fourth-quarter average below 1.85 per cent. A hold that repeats the September path is not this break.
- Official September CPIF on 14 October prints at 0.7 per cent or lower. That would erase the flash jump from August's 0.7 per cent to 1.5 per cent.
- The Board hikes, and the first SEKGBPPMI print dated after the decision is still above 13.17497. A higher Swedish rate that does not firm the krona breaks the link this call uses.
A hold that repeats September can still reach 13.0773. Missing the hike kills only 13.0140.
What is scheduled between 14 October and 4 November
The full September CPI is due on 14 October.
The Riksbank calendar has the meeting on 3 November 2026 at 09:00. Publication is 4 November at 09:30, with a press conference at 11:00 at Brunkebergstorg 11. The rate applies from 11 November. Minutes are due on 10 November. The next publication is 16 December, and this call sets no level for it.
On 5 November the Bank of England announces Bank Rate, now 3.75 per cent. That sterling question is already filed as the November Monetary Policy Committee date. Here, 13.10039 must break, 13.0773 is the base case, and 13.28199 ends it.
TL;DR
GBP/SEK, Riksbank series SEKGBPPMI, was 13.17497 on 9 October 2026. The base case is 13.0773 by 4 November, a 38.2 per cent retracement from 12.74605 on 6 August to 13.28199 on 5 October. Bear case 13.0140 if the policy rate goes to 2 per cent. Bull case 13.28199 if it stays at 1.75 per cent. Bank Rate is 3.75 per cent. Erik Thedéen said on 8 October that a November rise may be reasonable. A fixing above 13.28199 kills the call. The CPIF flash was 1.5 per cent, against 0.7 per cent in August.
Questions the 4 November fixing has to answer
What is the GBP/SEK base case into 4 November 2026?
The base case is 13.0773 kronor per pound by 4 November 2026, from a SEKGBPPMI fixing of 13.17497 on 9 October. The bear case is 13.0140 if the policy rate rises from 1.75 per cent to 2 per cent that morning. The bull case is 13.28199 if the rate stays at 1.75 per cent, with Bank Rate at 3.75 per cent. The date is the 09:30 Riksbank publication, not the December meeting.
Where does the 13.0773 figure come from?
It comes from two Riksbank fixings, not a bank forecast. The high since 1 July is 13.28199 on 5 October and the low is 12.74605 on 6 August, a range of 0.53594. The high minus 0.382 times that range is 13.07726, which rounds to 13.0773. The 23.6 per cent level, 13.15551, was inside one average day, so it was not used. The halfway level, 13.0140, is the bear case.
What is the Riksbank policy rate, and what did the Board say next?
The policy rate is 1.75 per cent, set on 23 September 2026, notified the next day and applied from 30 September. The decision says it has been unchanged for a year and that the krona has weakened. The press release looks for increases this year if the outlook holds, with a fourth-quarter average of 1.85 per cent against 1.82 per cent in June. On 8 October the Governor said a November rise may be reasonable. That is not a vote.
Why might GBP/SEK rise instead of fall?
Bank Rate is 3.75 per cent, 200 basis points over the Swedish rate, and a move to 2 per cent would still leave 175. Three members wanted 4 per cent in September, and the Bank of England decides on 5 November. The fixing also rose 6.28 per cent from 2 January to 9 October while the Swedish rate was unchanged. Guidance need not reverse that. Above 13.28199, that objection has won.
