Frans Woelders Appointed as Danske Bank’s Group COO

Danske Bank - Frans WoeldersDenmark’s largest bank Danske bank, more popularly known as one of Europe’s major retail banking hub recently revealed the addition of executive to its C-level team. As per statement released by the firm last Thursday, it has hired Mr. Frans Woelders to serve as its Group Chief Operations Officer and become a part of group’s executive leadership team which handles overall responsibility for Group IT and Group Services. However, Mr. Woelders won’t be joining the bank until late second quarter of 2020 as statement mentioned that he will take up his new role starting on 1st June 2020. In the meantime, the bank’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Chris Vogelzang will continue to serve as interim group COO. Mr. Woelders is currently serving in the role of Chief Digital Officer & Managing Director of Digital Banking and Transformation at Royal Bank of Scotland based out of the bank’s London officer.

Frans has been a part of RBS for one year and seven months now and will continue to remain as a part of Royal Bank of Scotland until he takes on his new role with the Danish bank in mid-2020. Frans is a veteran with nearly three decades of experience under his belt having served in consulting industry for nearly 7 years and in banking industry for more than two decades a majority of which he spent serving in various c-level roles. Given his multi decade long experience and vast knowledge gained in the process, Mr. Woelders has become an expert in combining commercial and customer centric approach to bring about large transformation to achieve targeted goals. Prior to his current term with RBS, he did a short stint at industry-leading management consulting firm Bain & Company and before that he spent a major part of his career serving under ABN AMRO Bank N.V.

Frans served under ABN AMRO for more than two decades during which he held several key c-level roles such as CEO of Retail Banking, Group CIO and Executive Vice President for the bank’s operations, Group services and as VP of the international division. He also spent more than a decade as Non-Executive Director for Commissaris at ABN AMRO Verzekeringen.

He spent early phase of his career serving as Trainer at Philips and as a consultant at Capgemini. Commenting on his new role at the firm, CEO Chris Vogelzang said, “I am very pleased that Frans Woelders will join our team. He brings extensive experience from top management positions in the financial sector and has delivered very good results both in relation to the IT and retail banking areas and in terms of bringing these areas closer together.
