David Damato Joins Gemini Exchange as Chief Security Officer

David DamatoNew York-headquartered cryptocurrency exchange firm, Gemini Trust Company LLC, recently made an announcement stating that the firm now has a new Chief Security Officer. The newly joined executive who takes up the role of a security officer is an industry veteran with nearly 15 years of experience in dealing with digital security as per information in his LinkedIn profile. David will report directly to the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, Tyler Winklevoss.

David started his career as a Network Engineer at Raytheon back in August 2003 post graduating with a bachelor degree in information technology from Juniata College in 2002. He served at Raytheon for a period of 2 years and six months post which he served at PricewaterhouseCoopers for four years. While serving at Raytheon and PWC, David managed to gain his master’s degree in Information Assurance from the University of Maryland. 

He joined PWC – one of the big four global auditing firms as an associate and was promoted twice to the role of senior associate and Manager during which his primary responsibility was to handle various tasks relating to information security management and to support audits by assessing client compliance with industry standards. He then served as Advisory board member of USC Viterbi School of Engineering focusing on aspects relating to computer and digital forensics for short duration of one year. He then served in high-level management roles for multiple firms such as Mandiant, Tanium, Exabeam, and Remediant. Prior to joining Gemini, David served as Chief Security Officer for Tanium until he resigned from the firm earlier this month. However, he continues to hold the role of Advisory Board Member for Exabeam and Remediant along with his new role at Gemini Exchange. 

During his four and half year long career at Tanium, he build and lead a team of expert cybersecurity specialists which focused on engineering unique security solutions to help protect government agencies, fortune 500 firms and major global banks, helping the firm live up to its status of most valuable privately held cybersecurity firm in the world. David’s arrival at the firm coincides with a time of growth given the firm expansion to accommodate nearly 200 employees just when the cryptocurrency market is recovering from the 2017 bubble.

His depth of security knowledge and his experience defending global networks will be invaluable as we continue to build the market’s most secure cryptocurrency offering”. It should be noted that Gemini was recently in news for its partnership with several other exchanges for building Virtual Commodity Association, a self-regulatory organisation aimed at improving regulations around crypto while also emphasizing on firm’s commitment to ensure meeting compliance demands expected in the market.
