China Retaliation Tariffs adds to Global Economic Uncertainty

Asian markets finished lower today and fell to a three-and-a-half month low approaching oversold levels as China announced it would impose higher tariffs on $60 billion of U.S. goods. The Nikkei225 lost 0.75 percent to 21,033. The Hang Seng benchmark in Hong Kong finished 1.43 percent lower at 28,135.

Asian markets were under selling pressure today following a sell-off on Wall Street overnight sparked by ongoing worries about a breakdown of trade talks between China and the US. The Nikkei225 opened with a gap lower today and lost 1.46 percent to 21,602, and the Hang Seng benchmark in Hong Kong finished 0.93 percent lower at 29,091. The Shanghai Composite lost 0.64 percent to 2,906, while in Singapore, the FTSE Straits Times index finished 0.97 percent lower at 3,280.

Brexit Thriller Continues, Gold Below the $1310 zone

Asian stocks finished mostly lower amid concerns of slower global growth, Brexit complications and votes and US-China trade talks worries. In Japan, the Nikkei225 main index underperformed with losses 1.67 percent to 21,022. The Hang Seng benchmark in Hong Kong finished 0.14 percent lower at 28,691. The Shanghai Composite finished 0.85 percent higher at 3,022, and in Singapore, the FTSE Straits Times index gained 0.76 percent lower at 2,999.
