The Board of the Bank of Lithuania awarded €10,000 and €5,000 to two researchers in economics. The Vladas Jurgutis Award was granted to scientist Jesus Crespo Cuaresma for his scientific article on central banking, while the Bank of Lithuania Award for Dissertation in the Field of Economics – to Renata Rabovič, a young scientist currently conducting research at Cambridge University.
“This time, the Award for Dissertation in the Field of Economics was granted to a scientific work presenting important insights in the areas of education policy and economics as well as contributing to the improvement of econometric techniques. It is indisputably a world-class work, one chapter of which is already being prepared for publication in a prestigious economics journal,” said Marius Jurgilas, Member of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania.
This year the Vladas Jurgutis Award was given to Jesus Crespo Cuaresma, carrying out a research project at Vilnius University, for his article “Spillovers from US monetary policy: evidence from a time varying parameter global vector auto-regressive model” co-authored with a group of scientists from Austria and Norway. The article has been published in the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society.
The Award for Dissertation in the Field of Economics was granted to Renata Rabovič for the work “Essays in economics of education and econometric theory”. One of its chapters has a Revise and Resubmit decision in the field-leading Journal of Econometrics. Ms Rabovič, who completed her Ph.D. at Tilburg University (Netherlands), is a researcher at Cambridge University.
Every year, between August and September, the Bank of Lithuania invites researchers in economics and those with a Ph.D. in economics or finance to apply for the awards. The submitted papers are assessed by a commission comprising scientists from the Bank of Lithuania’s Center for Excellence in Finance and Economic Research (CEFER) and representatives of Lithuanian and foreign universities. Although the bulk of applicants are from Lithuania, foreigners collaborating with Lithuanian universities have also applied.
The awards will be granted at the Baltic Economic Conference, organised jointly with the other two Baltic central banks and the main universities in the region.
