Gemini Broadens Connectivity with Avelacom

July 19, 2019

FIX ProtocolAvelacom has partnered with Gemini Trust Company, LLC, the digital asset exchange and custodian led by the Winklevoss twins, in order to support both firms’ clients by providing increased connectivity options to Gemini.

The financial industry connectivity expert has added Gemini to its list of cryptocurrency exchange tech vendors in Equinix’s NY5 data center, allowing its clients to connect directly to the exchange’s infrastructure to access market data and order routing via FIX protocol. FIX remains the global standard for professional traders and institutions in crypto markets.

Aleksey Larichev, CEO of Avelacom, commented:

“Gemini provides fundamental components to a robust, mature, and well-functioning cryptocurrency market including infrastructure for trading and custody. We believe this partnership will be beneficial for all involved as we match our tech capabilities to serve high-end trading firms across the US, Europe, and Asia.”
Avelacom’s network includes all major crypto exchange destinations such as New York as well as Dublin, Frankfurt, Zurich, San Jose, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Seoul. This will help Gemini clients to obtain connectivity to the best crypto markets in the world at the lowest latency possible. Round-trip latency from Tokyo’s markets to Gemini is just 136ms.
Avelacom has recently partnered with Seed CX, a licensed exchange for institutional trading and settlement of spot digital asset products, in order to gain access to Seed CX’s real-time market data and order-routing solutions. This allowed the firm to better meet global institutions’ desire to trade digital assets in a way they are used to from using traditional exchanges.
Gemini, which holds a ‘BitLicense’ from the New York State Department, has recently hired NYSE Chief Information Officer (CIO), Robert Cornish as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the technology team.
In 2018, Gemini partnered with Nasdaq to get its hands on its SMARTS Market Surveillance service which automatically detects any possible price manipulation or other illicit activities. This ensures a fair and “rules-based marketplace” for Gemini customers.
