Tarabut Gateway has appointed Chun Ong as the new Chief Operating Officer of the regulated open banking platform operating in the MENA region.

The seasoned C-suite is experienced in helping businesses scale, focusing on the end-to-end customer experience and operational efficiency will be invaluable in his new role at Tarabut Gateway, where he will lead the company’s operations as it continues to expand across multiple jurisdictions.

This latest senior appointment follows the Company’s recent hiring of two new Vice Presidents in Customer Success and Engineering. The new appointments are part of Tarabut Gateway’s investment in a team of trailblazing international and regionally based leaders, to transform MENA’s Open Banking landscape.

The new Tarabut Gateway COO previously served as Vice President of Customer Insights and Operations at WorldRemit, a UK Fintech transforming how people send money abroad, where he set up, scaled, and led the company’s Business Analytics and Global Operations teams.

Tarabut Gateway holds AIS and PIS Category 4 licenses from DFSA

Tarabut Gateway is an open banking leader in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain, offering platform-agnostic solutions to traditional financial institutions and fintechs that can connect and build their own apps in tandem with Tarabut Gateway’s platform, to power payment services, digital wallets, and other use cases.

In October 2020, Tarabut Gateway expanded its presence in MENA, establishing offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. In April 2022, Tarabut Gateway secured AIS (account information services) and PIS (payment initiation services) Category 4 licenses from the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA).

Tarabut Gateway has recently partnered with Rain, a crypto assets trading platform regulated in the MENA region, to bring about faster, cost-effective fiat-to-crypto transactions to Bahrain end-users and enable funding payments directly from user bank accounts without the need to leave Rain’s platform.

The open banking payment solutions facilitates on and off-ramp (fiat-crypto-fiat) transfers for users, increasing speed and reducing errors associated with traditional bank wire transfers. Rain tapped Tarabut as part of its strategy to provide a premium and seamless crypto wallet experience for its MENA users.
