President Ueli Maurer’s programme featured meetings with 20 heads of state and government and finance ministers and 11 meetings with business representatives. During the meetings with President Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine, and Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond, UK, mutual agreements were signed, i.e. a protocol of amendment to the double taxation agreement with Ukraine and an insurance agreement and transport agreement with the United Kingdom.
During the meetings with representatives from the EU (including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and EU Commissioner Pierre Moscovici), President Maurer discussed Switzerland’s current situation and position regarding the institutional framework agreement with the EU and explained the course of action initiated by the Federal Council. The President was accompanied by his colleagues Ignazio Cassis and Guy Parmelin at several meetings. His discussions in the area of digital transformation, including with Apple CEO Tim Cook, focused on current developments, including regulatory and tax issues.
