July 29, 2019

Today, Vitas Vasiliauskas, Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, and Raimondas Kuodis, Deputy Chair of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, will meet with the heads of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus in Minsk to discuss possibilities for developing cooperation between the two central banks. Traditionally, such meetings include discussions on economic development trends in both countries. The meeting agenda also includes another topic – the use of  technologies in the digital banking sector. Vitas Vasiliauskas and Raimondas Kuodis will present the current situation in Lithuania’s banks.

The meeting will also focus on the EU Twinning Project which was successfully completed this month, led by the central banks of the three EU countries – Lithuania, Poland and Germany. The 18-month project was aimed to convey experience to the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus in several key areas of central banking. The heads of the central banks will discuss their intentions to implement a new Twinning Project.

This is a reciprocal visit by representatives of the Bank of Lithuania to the Republic of Belarus. A delegation of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, led by Pavel Kallaur, Chairman of the Board, paid an official visit to Lithuania at the beginning of 2019.

Cooperation between the central banks of Lithuania and Belarus on expert and management level has been maintained for more than 20 years, prompting the exchange of information on economic development trends, best practices in financial market supervision, performance management, internal audit, HR, communication and other fields.
