Andrew Gibson launches TimberFX brokerage brand in Cyprus

After nearly two years at Tavira Securities as Head of Product Development, industry veteran Andrew Gibson is launching a new FX brokerage business based out of Cyprus.

Operating under the brand name ‘Timberfx,’ Andrew is also assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer, he shared on his Linkedin profile. He ended a relatively short stint at Dubai-based Tavira Securities, where he led the development of its FX and CFDs products.

Andrew is a seasoned financial services industry professional with over three decades of experience cutting across FX and CFDs industries.

Prior to his relocation to the UAE, Andrew spent more than three years at Alfa Capital Markets. During this long stint, he worked his way up through several senior roles with the firm, culminating with the position of Head of Institutional Sales.

Over the course of his career, additional roles include senior stints as FX consultant at North American electronic communication network (ECN) for FX trading FastMatch and product manager at Russian institutional firm BCS Financial in Moscow. Mr. Gibson transitioned to TradAir in January 2015. He assumed the role of Global Sales Director after his position at Dutch financial powerhouse ABN Amro Clearing Bank NV. At ABN Amro, he served as Sales Manager of FX Products, overseeing FX clearing services, strategizing, and spearheading sales efforts.

In 2016, Andrew left TradAir to found a new FX consultancy which was launched under the name SGB BV, based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Before his six-and-a-half-year tenure at ABN AMRO Bank N.V., Mr. Gibson dedicated four years at Fortis Bank Global Clearing NV in the Netherlands, holding the role of Sales Manager for FX Products.

During the mid-2000s, Mr. Gibson served as the Sales Manager at ForexManage Ltd, overseeing software sales from January 2002 to July 2007. Prior to this role, he was engaged in software sales at Qanat Ltd for two years.

With a vast background in the FX industry spanning thirty years, Mr. Gibson’s professional journey includes a two-year stint at TraderTools in 1998, following an eleven-year tenure as a Futures Broker and Account Executive at Refco, a position he assumed in 1986.
