HKMA and the BIS Sign Operational Agreement on the BIS Innovation Hub Centre in Hong Kong SAR

The Hub will identify and develop in-depth insights into critical trends in technology affecting central banking; develop public goods in the technology space geared towards improving the functioning of the global financial system; and serve as a focal point for a network of central bank experts on innovation. Hub Centres will be set up in Hong Kong, Singapore and Basel, Switzerland, in the initial phase.

Results of 2019 Bank for International Settlements Triennial Survey of Foreign Exchange and Derivatives Market Turnover

The Bank for International Settlements published yesterday (16 September 2019) the results of the 2019 Triennial Survey of Foreign Exchange and Derivatives Market Turnover1.  Hong Kong advanced one place and ranked third globally in terms of over-the-counter (OTC) interest rate derivatives turnover. It continued to be the fourth largest global foreign exchange market.

HKMA Introduces Key Measures on Sustainable Banking and Green Finance

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today unveiled three sets of measures to support and promote Hong Kong’s green finance development.  In his opening remarks at the HKMA Green Finance Forum today, Mr Norman Chan, Chief Executive of the HKMA, said that the HKMA will collaborate with the industry and other stakeholders to combat climate change risks and develop green finance.

Eddie Yue: Speech at the ISDA 34th Annual General Meeting in Hong Kong

Thank you for inviting me to speak at the ISDA Annual General Meeting.  For those of you coming from overseas, let me welcome you to Hong Kong and the very dynamic Asian region.  By now, I hope you have experienced and enjoyed the vibrancy of the city.  Indeed, this same vibrancy runs through Asia, which has got strong economic momentum with a promising outlook.  But as central bankers, our job is to be on the lookout for future challenges and how to overcome them.  So today I’d like to start by outlining two near-term risks on my radar screen, and then discuss two longer-term challenges for Asia.  I would then offer some thoughts on how financial sector developments, including a lot of the efforts that ISDA has been involved in, can help overcome these challenges.
