Coinbase Appoints Ex-Google Surojit Chatterjee as Chief Product Officer

Surojit ChatterjeeCoinbase has appointed Surojit Chatterjee, former Vice President of Product at Google, as its new Chief Product Officer. Surojit will play a critical role in making the crypto economy accessible to millions more people through Coinbase’s suite of products.

Surojit spent 11 years at Google, most recently as VP of Product, where he led Google Shopping, which helps people discover and compare products on Google. Prior to that, he was the Head of Product at Flipkart, a popular Indian e-commerce site, leading product management, user experience, product operations, and data science. “When someone has only lived, worked, or transacted in a country like the United States, it can be difficult to grasp the size of the opportunity in simplifying cross-border transactions. But it’s clear that Surojit’s insights and experiences on the front lines of global commerce make him the perfect person to lead our product organization, help us continue our pace of repeatable innovation, and bring Coinbase products to the next billion crypto users around the world”, the company said.

Coinbase has most recently decided to shut down its subsidiary Earn.com as it plans to expand the services of its Coinbase Earn program whose functions were very similar to and mirrored that of its subsidiary Earn.com. The firm acquired Earn.com for US$100 Million in April 2018 in order to bring into fold Balaji Srinivasan, Co-Founder and Chief of Earn.com platform, to serve as its Chief Technology Officer.

The deal propelled the value of exchange from just US$1.8 Billion to US$8 billion. Earn.com is expected to be shut down completely by 20th of February, 2020. Users will now have to withdraw any funds until then as they join Coinbase Earn.
