CME Group and Moscow Exchange (MOEX) Reports Volume Figures for the Month of January 2019

Derivatives marketplace, CME Group has released its January 2019 operation metrics, with steady volumes during the month. During the month, the group has reached the average daily volume (ADV) of 17.8 million contracts, which is 6 per cent lower on a year-on-year basis. The open interest in January 2019 reached 122 million contracts, down by 1 per cent against January 2018, but is 5 per cent higher compared to December 2018 volumes.

Stock Markets Higher on Positive Sentiment

Positive news from US-China trade talks during the weekend pushed Asian stocks higher. In Tokyo, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index finished 0.3% higher at 20,883 the Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index added 0.21% percent higher at 27,990.

US-China Trade Talks Improve Risk Appetite

President Trump tweeted overnight that “talks with China are going very well” while the meetings were extended for a third day in Beijing, gave Asian stocks a boost to three week high. This combined with no surprises in President Trump’s Oval Office address earlier in the day seemed to help push equities higher in the Asian session.
