Asian indices finished higher today after better data from China; the Caixin Services PMI rose from previous 51.6 to 52.1 in August. The Hang Seng ended 3.55 percent higher at 26,423 registering the largest daily gain in more than 8 years. Nikkei 225 in Japan ended 0.12% higher at 20,649. The Shanghai Composite trading 0.86 percent higher to 2,955, while in Singapore the FTSE Straits Times index finished 1,44 percent higher at 3,134. The ASX 200 in Australia trading 0.87% lower to 6,516.

Mexican Peso Rallies on Immigration Deal News

Asian indices started the week higher as investors are digesting the news that President Donald Trump suspended plans to impose tariffs on Mexico. The Nikkei225 finished 1.20 percent higher to 21,134 the Hang Seng benchmark in Hong Kong, finished 2.31 percent higher at 27,584. The Shanghai Composite finished 0.86 percent higher to 2,852, while in Singapore the FTSE Straits Times index finished 0.69 percent higher to 3,188. Australian equities are closed today.

Global Growth Concerns Linger, Weighing on Risk Appetite

The Trump administration reportedly cancelled extended trade talks with China which were scheduled for January 31. Asian indices closed mixed with Japan’s Nikkei down 0.14% at 20,593, the Shanghai Composite Index gave up 0.16%, and Australian stocks remained in negative territory this afternoon, as losses from resource stocks and financials were enough to push the market lower for a second day. The ASX 200 fell by 15.1 points or 0.26% to 5843.7. Aussie indices are still up 3.5% in January, making it the best month since April 2018.
