SEC Names Sean Memon as Chief of Staff

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that Sean Memon will become the agency’s Chief of Staff. Mr. Memon has served as the SEC’s Deputy Chief of Staff since May 2017.  In that capacity, Mr. Memon has served as a senior advisor to Chairman Clayton on legal, policy and management matters affecting all aspects of the agency’s mission, including rulemaking, enforcement, examinations and internal agency operations. 

FINRA Forms Office of Financial Innovation, Announces Haimera Workie as Head

FINRA today announced the formation of an Office of Financial Innovation that will serve as a central point of coordination for issues related to significant financial innovations by FINRA member firms, particularly new uses of financial technology (fintech). The move will further enhance FINRA’s ability to identify, understand and foster financial innovation in the markets in a manner that strengthens investor protection and market integrity.

Virtu and MarketAxess Plan to Join Forces on ETFs and Fixed Income

MSCI Appoints Interim Chief Financial Officer

Wiechmann, who has been serving as the Company’s Head of Strategy, Corporate Development and Investor Relations, has been appointed Interim Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, effective March 5, 2019. In connection with this appointment, Mr. Wiechmann is also now a member of the Company’s Executive Committee. Kathleen A. Winters has resigned from her roles as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of MSCI to become the Chief Financial Officer of a large global company. Her last day at the Company will be March 15, 2019. 

Crypto Industry in Singapore Gets Boost With New Partnerships

HydraX, a financial technology company headquartered in Singapore, has partnered with fiat-to-crypto exchange Coinhako and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with XSQ, one of Singapore’s largest cryptocurrency advisory and blockchain development companies.
