REDO Memecoin Soars 140% After Becoming Ton Blockchain’s New Avatar

The memecoin ‘Resistance Dog’ (REDO) surged by over 140% after Ton developers adopted it as the official avatar for Toncoin across various community channels.

The change is part of a larger effort by Ton developers to align with the “DigitalResistance” movement, represented by the white cartoon dog in a hood, which has now taken the place of the previous Ton blockchain logo.

The core developers announced the adoption of the ‘Resistance Dog’ avatar on platforms like the official Telegram channel and X account following the arrest of Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram and a key figure in the Ton blockchain, in France over the weekend.

“In support of DigitalResistance, we are updating Toncoin’s logo and profile pictures across TON Community channels to the global symbol of Digital Resistance — the Resistance Dog,” the team stated on Monday.

Following the announcement, REDO’s price surged from $0.35 to over $0.85 before settling back to $0.65. The token’s market capitalization currently stands at $65 million.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the arrest of Telegram CEO is part of a legal investigation, not a political decision. In a post on X, Macron claims that France supports freedom of expression, innovation, and the rule of law.

“In a state governed by the rule of law, freedoms are upheld within a legal framework, both on social media and in real life, to protect citizens and respect their fundamental rights,” Macron wrote.

The Russian Embassy in France expressed concern, saying French authorities were not cooperating with their attempts to reach Durov. The UAE’s foreign ministry also requested urgent consular access for Durov.

The Tribunal Judiciaire de Paris confirmed on Monday that Durov’s arrest was related to a cybercrime investigation, which includes allegations of offering “cryptology” services. French prosecutors indicated that Durov could be held in police custody until August 28.

Elon Musk responded to Macron’s post, asking for more details about why Durov was arrested. CEO of Tesla, X, and SpaceX, wrote, “It would be helpful to the global public to understand more details about why he was arrested.”
